ACE and MDM - Otherness needs a special home
MDM and the ACE Cafe Lucerne are now partners! The original ACE Cafe is in England, the motherland of petrolheads. It has always been home to very special people. It became famous with them, they rebuilt the cafe after war and destruction and it has once again become the home of different people - passionate Petrolheads.
MDM is a watch brand that is also the home of the different. They are watch lovers with aspirations not to drive, walk, fly and swim on well-trodden paths. They are different. Many of them are petrolheads.
Being home to those who are different is like being home to a big family. The ACE Cafe in Lucerne and our studio in Zurich are just such a home. That is why we have found each other and are proud to be able to be this home for you. If you visit the ACE Cafe in Lucerne soon, our name will also be "on the door"!
Outside on the big door, inside on the door for big and small businesses, on the Look at container, on our Ape and then eventually on the ACE Club clock. A clock designed for the ACE Club, based on one of our classics, which has already become home to others who wanted to express their specialness. There will be 111 of them. We will inform you in time when this watch will be available.
We strongly assume that we will see each other at one of the numerous events of the ACE Café Lucerne. And if not, then at least we know about ourselves and our home in our studio and in the ACE Café Lucerne. A good feeling.
Watches made from the gold of the early years
If you think of ship's propellers and ship's bells when you think of bronze, you think of how incredibly resistant bronze is to environmental influences. Yes, it changes its shine and, in extreme cases, its colour. But that is precisely what makes it so charming. In the most positive sense of the word, you can see its age and its individual use. If there is a patina that is valuable, that is marvelled at, it is the patina of bronze.
Those who love life love bronze watches: The play of colours in the patina is what makes bronze so extremely attractive as a metal for Maurice de Mauriac watches. Bronze watches participate intensively in the life of the wearer and show their colours. They alternate between gold, brown, black and green-blue. If life changes, the colour changes. Wherever the bronze watch rubs up against life in particular, it shimmers with a constant golden sheen. Bronze watches live.
Bronze in first place
Bronze medals always stand for third place. Bronze watches, however, have quickly conquered the first place in the heart of a watch lover. Anyone who has ever been able to cradle a bronze watch in their hands is surprised by the warmth that bronzes radiate. The archaic nature of these alloys and their ability to change colour is also impressive - you look again right away so as not to miss the change.
Around 4000 BC there are the first bronzes, the very first alloy created by humans. The copper-tin alloy ended the Copper Age and it would be a very long time before the Iron Age replaced it. The man-made alloy was valuable because it was not easily available to everyone in nature. And so bronze became an expression of exclusivity and thus of wealth. And this wealth was extremely durable and mobile. If you moved from here to there, you could take your wealth with you. That changed these early societies around the globe.
Societies have never been more mobile than today. It therefore stands to reason that we not only want to live this, but also to document it. Since we do not want to carry propellers or bells as visible accessories in our everyday lives, watches are once again being made in bronze. We have been offering almost all our watch models in bronze for years. For lovers of metallic bracelets, however, the bronze watch was never an option because there were no bronze bracelets suitable for everyday use!
After several years of research and countless samples, MDM finally has a bronze watch band. There is still a stainless steel part on the clasp, but it becomes completely invisible when it is closed.
A full bronze watch weighs heavily because it gives character to time, because it carries a weighty narrative, because it carries the character of the wearer, because it lives intensely - and because bronze has a weight that does all this justice.
